Jeep CJ7 76-86
Jeep CJ 5 6 7 76-86 Spare Parts Accessories
The first civilian version of the CJ series (the acronym CJ stands for Civilian Jeep, the number indicates the version produced), derives from the M 38A1.
The structure of the first CJ (5) had not undergone significant changes compared to the M38A1, a robust chassis with side members and cross members with rigid axle suspension and leaf springs, which mounted a steel torpedo body. Equipped with several engines:
- a water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine with mixed valve timing (overhead intake valves and side exhaust valves) known as the "Hurricane"
- the V6 Dauntless, with a displacement of 3685 cc and 160 hp. In 1963, the Jeep brand became the property of the Kaiser Corporation. In 1970, the Renegade version was introduced, a sporty variant with a V6 Dauntless engine.
Also in 1970, Kaiser was absorbed by AMC (American Motors Corporation). In 1970, the Hurricane was replaced with a 3800 cc inline six-cylinder engine (100 hp) and, as options, a 4226 cc six-cylinder engine (1 10 hp) and a 4979 cc V8 (150 hp). In In 1979, a new 2473 cc 4-cylinder engine derived from Pontiac (Iron Duke) was introduced. From 1981, the 5.0-liter V8 was no longer available. In 1983, it was removed from the price list and replaced in 1976 with the CJ 7, distinguishable at first glance by the cut of the door, whose wheelbase was increased to 93.5 inches on which it was possible to install the automatic transmission (available for the first time on a CJ) and the "Quadratrac" transmission (permanent four-wheel drive with a lockable third differential). The 1979 oil crisis led to the reintroduction of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder (1979) and the production of a version with a 2.4-liter Isuzu diesel engine.
